Art to Heart Launches Inclusive Summer Club in Memory of Reem Khalil

Art to Heart hosted its first inclusive children’s summer club at its centre in Nablus in June 2022, bringing together fifty children with and without disabilities aged 6 to 14 for a full month of arts, sports, and disability awareness activities.
The club was held in memory of Reem Khalil, former Director of Drosos Foundation in Palestine and a committed social activist, who passed away in December 2021 after a battle with cancer. Reem was among Art to Heart’s earliest and most steadfast supporters, believing in the organization’s vision and mission from its founding days. Her loss was widely felt across Palestinian civil society.
Held at A2H’s centre in Nablus city, the club offered children a genuinely inclusive environment – one where disability was part of everyday life rather than a separate agenda. Activities spanned visual arts, movement and sports, and structured sessions raising awareness on disability rights and inclusion. For many participants, it was their first experience in a mixed group setting of this kind.
“This club is our way of honouring Reem’s belief in what inclusive community can look like,” said Suha Khuffash, Executive Director of Art to Heart. “She saw this vision before most people did. Bringing children together – all children – is the most honest tribute we could offer her.”
The summer club reflects Art to Heart’s broader commitment to community-based inclusion: creating spaces where children with disabilities participate fully, visibly, and on equal terms.

We are building an inclusive Palestine where art serves as a powerful language beyond words, empowering persons with disabilities to create, connect, and contribute with dignity and justice alongside everyone else.
